About KLMarkert

My dad built a darkroom in our basement in 1983. I was amazed at how I could "roll my own" negative film, process the film into photos, and manipulate the photo processing to bring out different characteristics. Thirty years later I can till close my eyes and tell you where everything was in our darkroom. I can almost smell the chemicals and hear the timer ticking off processing time as if I were back in the room today. My love and passion for photography began in 1983. I took pictures all through school and college, and in many other places since finishing school.

I'm driven by the idea that I absolutely must capture memories "on film" so I don't forget them. It's easier to share an experience or thought when it is better defined by a photograph. A good photograph can capture the emotion of a moment, help others put themselves in someone else's shoes; photos can open the world far beyond one's front door. I dream in photographs, whether sleeping or wide awake, always thinking about the next pictures I'll take.
